A Living Tradition
Every year, in the month of June, Djanet hosts La Sebiba, one of the greatest traditions of the Tassili n’Ajjer. Passed down from generation to generation, this ancestral celebration originates from an old rivalry between two communities, transformed into an artistic celebration: warlike gestures became dances, and confrontations gave way to song.
During the festival, the men perform ritual dances, while the women, dressed in richly decorated outfits, accompany the ceremonies with their songs and rhythms. Inscribed on UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list, La Sebiba is a living heritage, carried with pride by the local people.
