An Unexpected Desert
In Iherir, water and vegetation appear at the heart of the Tassili’s rocky landscapes. The gueltas, palm groves and deep valleys offer a striking contrast with the vast mineral expanses of the Sahara. Far more than an oasis, the Iherir valley is an exceptional wetland, recognized under the Ramsar Convention and part of the Tassili n’Ajjer biosphere reserve.
The vegetation that grows around the gueltas creates a true natural haven. Between water, rocky relief and wide open spaces, Iherir reveals another facet of the desert: softer, more alive and deeply soothing.
